Lore & Background

Prince Rilian was the son of King Caspian X, who had been kidnapped ten years earlier while walking through the woods with his mother. The Queen of Underland, a sorceress capable of assuming the form of a giant green serpent, had enchanted him to forget his identity and bind him to her service with silver chains that could only be removed for one hour each day. During this brief window, he was forced to wear the chains as a warning; if they were not re-fastened by his captor before the hour ended, he would die or remain trapped forever.

The enchantment relied on the victim's memory being erased daily, leaving Rilian a hollow shell who believed he was merely a servant of the Green Lady. The plan to rescue him required a specific sign from Aslan: two children must meet a dwarf named Puddleglum and follow a series of signs across the northern wastes. Their journey took them through frozen landscapes and into the subterranean realm, where they had to resist the hypnotic allure of the Underland's capital city.

In Their Own Story

The air in the Underland hung heavy, tasting of damp moss and ancient stone, forever severed from the sun's warmth. Upon a cold iron throne sat Prince Rilian, his silver chains clinking with a mournful rhythm as he fought a fog that thickened within his mind. He knew only the waiting: the hour must end so the Lady could return to re-fasten his bonds. Then, the heavy doors groaned open. A boy with a scarred face and a girl with wild hair stepped through the gloom, flanked by a grumpy marsh-walking dwarf holding a lantern that cast long, dancing shadows against the rock. 'We are here to break your chains,' the boy whispered, his voice trembling not from fear of death, but from the crushing weight of the enchantment that bound them all.

Reader's Guide

The adventure ignites when King Caspian X, aged and weary, pleads with Aslan for aid in finding his son. Eustace Scrubb and Jill Pole are summoned to Narnia, tasked by a talking horse named Bree and the dwarf Puddleglum to follow four specific signs across the treacherous northern wastes. They traverse frozen deserts, battling wolves and biting gales, until they discover the hidden entrance to the Underland.

Descending into the subterranean realm, the trio confronts the enchanting city of the Green Lady. She attempts to seduce them with visions of a warm, sunlit world that never existed, striving to erase their purpose from their minds. Puddleglum delivers a pivotal act of defiance: stomping out the magical fire and reciting the signs against her illusion, shattering the spell's hold on the group.

They finally confront Prince Rilian during his brief hour of freedom. Initially hostile and confused, he...
