Fleeing Calormen alongside the Calormene girl Aravis and her talking horse Hwin, Shasta joins forces with Bree. Together they face the scorching desert, the Western Tombs of the dead kings, and the overwhelming presence of Aslan, who guides them unseen through their perilous trek. It is here, amidst the ruins of ancient history, that Shasta learns his true name: Cor, the long-lost son of King Lune.

For the first time, the boy did not feel like a runaway; he felt like a prince returning home.

Shasta begins his journey as an uneducated, fearful child accustomed to servitude in Calormen. Unlike other Narnian protagonists who arrive from our world, Shasta is native to this universe, making his growth within the context of Calormene oppression particularly poignant. His skills are grounded in survival rather than magic; he is adept at tracking, endurance riding, and navigating the harsh desert landscape.
His defining moment occurs when he learns that the mysterious Lion guiding them is actually Aslan, simultaneously revealing his royal heritage as Prince Cor of Archenland. Shasta's arc culminates in a battle against the Calormene army threatening Narnia. He fights alongside King Lune and the Narnians, proving his bravery and leadership. By the story's end, he is reunited with his father and younger brother, Prince Corin, ascending to the throne as King Cor.
